Over 4,500 children and parents rumbled into the National Building Museum’s Great Hall Saturday, October 15 to take part in the 2016 Big Build. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, the annual family-friendly event featured dozens of building industry organizations and manufacturers.
Among the din of children sawing lumber and clicking Legos into place, Continental’s Joint Compound Application Station was once again one of the most popular stops for junior builders. Every inch of our Y-shaped LiftLite® wallboard structure was covered with Rapid Coat® Lightweight compound (or “mud,” to use industry lingo) by the end of the day. Our industrious little workers made sure that not a screw or seam was left bare!
Hand in Hand
“I expected to have a really fun time, and I did!” said Continental employee Angela Hess, who was volunteering at her first Big Build as part of a team led by Roger Melton, Continental Technical Field Representative. “But what I didn’t expect was to see such a constant, steady flow of kids and parents. I had so much fun interacting with everyone, and I loved getting the chance to apply compound myself to the board!”
Co-worker and first-time volunteer Felicia Louis enjoyed engaging with visitors throughout the event. “I was watching parents help their children use the plastic drywall knives to finish the wall, and it occurred to me that that’s how we work as a company—hand in hand.”
